For Grampian/North Area, this is the final date for receipt of prints in order to allow their Area Rep/EC Member to bring to our SPF EC Meeting on the 26th Jan. For all other areas the later drop-off date is 3rd Feb, please see drop-off point details and contacts available from the SPF Print Championship webpage under downloads for 2025 event. Clubs can also get prints to Carluke themselves by the final date of 4th Feb if they wish, as long as this is arranged direct with Libby in advance.

This meeting will be held in person. 1pm Start. As well as the Executive dealing with the general administration of the SPF and its events; These meetings are your chance to have any items of business you wish to be discussed brought to the attention of the SPF via your Area Rep or by contacting the SPF General Secretary.
This January meeting also allows us to collect in your Print Championship entries from the less-central areas to save Clubs postage.

All entries will come to Libby at Carluke for the sort days of 4th to 6th Feb – you can arrange to deliver direct if you wish from any area but all entries must be received by 4th Feb at the latest as we will be processing them that day. Alternatively you can drop-off at any of the drop-off points up until the 3rd Feb by arrangement with the drop-off point contact. The Photojournalistic Approach with Lucien Migné. This Free zoom presentation is brought to us by the FIAP Photo Academy Online Events, and is being shown on Wednesday 19 February 2025 at 7pm London Time
Join us for a presentation by the French Photojournalist Lucien Migné who will speak with us about his images and the motivation for being a Photojournalist.
Independent documentary photographer Lucien MIGNÉ is based in Marseille, France, and works on reports that are mainly interested in social and environmental issues.
After several years of traveling around the world during which he sharpened his eye as a pho-tographer, Lucien undertook cinema studies (graduating with a Master’s degree from the Satis Cinema/Photography school) and directed several short films. He then turned to photography, in the continuity of his approach as a filmmaker: telling stories with images. From Moroccan man-ual workers to water scarcity in Lebanon, to Egyptian limestone quarries, his work explores the human and social mechanisms that shape our current world.
Lucien MIGNÉ is a member of the Zeppelin agency, which broadcasts his reports, and the RÉA agency for which he covers Marseille news. In 2023 and 2024, he won the coup de cœur de l'ANI (Association Nationale des Iconographes) at the Visa pour l'image festival. He also works on commissions for corporate photography and video, portraits and reports in Marseille, but also throughout France and internationally.

Does your Club struggle to get Judges or Speakers? Are you looking for new Judges or Lectures in your area? I'm sure the answer is yes! In a few years the issue will be worse unless we get more volunteers now!
Many long term SPF Judges and Speakers have retired over the past four years, after having served our Scottish Clubs in either capacity for many years (some over 50!). Some may still be Judging or Lecturing in a limited capacity, but they may not do so for long.
Although a few individuals have volunteered to take on the role of Judge or Speaker in recent years, this has not replaced the number of Judges or Speakers we have lost.
In a few years the issue will be much worse, we need Clubs and Individuals to persuade individuals to volunteer now, to ensure our Clubs all have Judges and Speakers available to visit us at our Clubs in the future.
Worried about what you are committing to? You take on as much or as little as you want to, or what your circumstances will allow. If you only want to do 5 Judgings or talks a year, that is still 5 less that require to be filled by someone else.
Our existing Judges and Lecturers are overrun with invitatations from Clubs to fill a slot on their syllabus, they simply can't take on more so why not get in touch with the SPF now and have a chat to find out more about becoming an SPF Judge or Lecturer?

Welcome to the SPF
We are a non-profitmaking network of almost 100 clubs and societies from Thurso in the north to Dumfries in the south and all areas in between. The sizes and involvement of each club within the SPF varies widely.
Founded in 1903, our remit is to promote the art and science of photography through interaction. To this end, the SPF Executive Committee organises a diary of events annually, mainly in the form of competitions and workshops, which our Clubs and their Members can participate in. The SPF also organises or co-ordinates entries to other events nationally or internationally on behalf of our members. We also maintain a mailing list and supply various services, including our e-newsletter the 'e-flash', and SPF Directory which contains all SPF Clubs and our SPF Judge’s & Lecturer’s list.
Through our SPF membership, comes affiliation of the PAGB. This gives access to the Club network throughout the whole of the UK. Through this affiliation comes other benefits including competitive Insurance arrangements for Camera Clubs, exclusive to the PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) network, which you can take advantage of as an affiliated SPF club. In addition to this UK membership; as a member Club of the SPF, you and your members also automatically become members of FIAP (Federation Internationale de l'art Photographique) which is a worldwide organisation, currently based in Luxembourg.
